Showing Geometric Parameters

<< Previous: Other

Next: Showing General Information >>

The current values of the following geometric parameters can be displayed in a text box at the bottom of the screen ([4.0+] and [4.1+] indicate features available starting with Cosmographia 4.0 and 4.1 correspondingly):
Function
Description
Method(s) to Perform Function
Distance between Two Bodies
Shows text box that displays the distance between two objects in km. This also displays their relative speed of approach in km/s.
[4.0+] The distance text box can be dragged with mouse to any location within the program window.
[4.1+] The right-top corner button (x) closing the distance box appears only when the cursor is within the box area.
Object Menu: Select the first object [OBJECT]. Right click the second, non-selected object. Click Distance to OBJECT. Make sure time is not paused.
Altitude of Body above the Surface of Another Body
Shows a text box that displays the altitude of one object that uses a 3D model above the surface of another object that is modeled as an ellipsoid in km.
This also displays their relative speed of approach in km/s.
[4.0+] The altitude text box can be dragged with mouse to any location within the program window.
[4.1+] The right-top corner button (x) closing the altitude box appears only when the cursor is within the box area.
Object Menu: Select the first object [OBJECT] modeled as an ellipsoid (ex: planet or satellite). Right click the second, non-selected object modeled as a 3D shape (ex: spacecraft) . Click Altitude above OBJECT. Make sure time is not paused.
Note that the Altitude above OBJECT option will appear in the Object menu only if one object is modeled as an ellipsoid and the other is modeled as a 3D model and if they are clicked as described above.
Relative Speed of Approach between Two Bodies
Relative speed of  approach between two bodies, in km/s, is shown together with distance or altitude.
Object Menu: Select distance or altitude as described above. Make sure time is not paused.
